With 13 years of teaching experience, I have had the privilege of teaching 2nd and 3rd graders in all subjects. I have taught in both Virginia and California, and am now excited to bring my expertise to North Carolina for the upcoming school year! I hold a Masters of Arts in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and am also a multiple subject credentialed teacher in both California and North Carolina. I believe in making online learning fun and engaging for my students by incorporating their interests into my lessons and keeping things light and silly. I understand the importance of fostering a positive and enjoyable learning environment in order for children to truly engage and retain information. In addition, I am a firm believer in quick and relevant lessons that are tailored to each child's individual needs. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, dancing, sewing, and spending time with my family, friends, and puppy. These interests have greatly influenced my teaching style, as I believe in the importance of incorporating creativity, building strong relationships, and having fun in the learning process. I am committed to making sure every learner in my 1:1 sessions feels excited and motivated to learn, and I can't wait to work with you and your family!

Hi my name is Ms. Emery and I am excited to start this learning journey with you! As an experienced educator with 17 years of teaching under my belt, I have had the privilege of working with learners in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Throughout my career, I have taught a variety of subjects including reading, writing, and math. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have also obtained my AIG Certification and am recognized as a Curriculum Associates Extraordinary Educator. Throughout my years as a teacher, I have had the opportunity to teach in both North Carolina and Illinois. My teaching style is focused on making learning enjoyable and effective. When it comes to online learning, I strive to make it feel like we are sitting right beside each other. I connect and interact with my learners to ensure they want to spend time with me and learn. My goal is to bring energy and engaging tools to our learning sessions, making them successful and worthwhile. Outside of teaching, I have two sons who keep me busy with sports. When I'm not cheering them on, I love spending time outside with my dogs or working in my garden. Having young children of my own has given me patience and a deeper understanding of different learning styles. I also know that online learning may feel like ""more school"" for young learners, so I always try to incorporate their interests and mine into our lessons. I am looking forward to getting to know your family and making our online learning experience both fun and effective. Let's work together to help your child reach their individual goals and succeed in their academic journey!

Teaching has always been my passion, and it’s something I’ve dreamed of doing for as long as I can remember. I’ve been fortunate enough to teach for the past two years in Illinois, working with grades 2-6 and focusing on subjects like reading, math and writing. Making sure that my students are able to enjoy and engage with their learning is a top priority for me, especially in the online learning space. That's why I love incorporating hands-on activities and interactive discussions into our virtual lessons. By making learning more dynamic, I am able to keep my students' attention and help them truly understand the material. I also use strategies like asking questions and having students solve problems on their own to ensure that our online lessons are just as effective as in-person classes. When I'm not teaching, I love to spend my time reading and playing volleyball. Recently, I also started my own small crafting business, which has been a fun and creative outlet for me. I find that my interests outside of teaching greatly influence my teaching style and methodology. Reading is a passion of mine, and I believe that by sharing that passion with my students, I can inspire them to love reading as well. I can't wait to get to know your child and their interests too, so we can make our lessons as fun and impactful as possible. I am so excited to join the Dojo Tutor team and work with your family! Together, we can make learning a fun and enjoyable experience for your child. Let's start this learning journey together and see how much your child can grow and accomplish. I’m excited to continue making a positive impact in the lives of young learners! I can't wait to meet you all soon!

I have been teaching for 14 years and have experience teaching students from Kindergarten to 6th grade in various subjects. My teaching journey has taken me to Georgia and the United Arab Emirates, where I have had the pleasure of working with diverse learners and families. My degrees include an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Technology and a Masters in Educational Leadership. With these qualifications, I am well-equipped to utilize technology and improve instructional techniques to support learners' success. In addition, I hold teaching certifications in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, and Instructional Technology. These qualifications, combined with my years of experience, have allowed me to continuously improve and adapt my teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of my students. My goal is to make online learning enjoyable and effective for my students. I achieve this by incorporating interactive tools, props, discussions, and games into my lessons. I also use interactive assessments, such as lesson games and quizzes, to ensure that my learners are engaged and understanding the material. Aside from teaching, my interests include reading and writing. In fact, I have even written a children's book! I also love to travel and have found that it has made me more aware and sensitive to cultural differences. I believe that my passion for reading, writing, and experiencing new cultures greatly influences my teaching style and methodology, allowing me to bring excitement and enthusiasm into the classroom. I am looking forward to getting to know my learners and helping them reach their full potential!

Expert 2nd grade writing support, built around your child

Second grade writing builds on sentence skills — children write longer pieces, use more varied vocabulary, and develop clearer organization. Struggles with spelling, grammar, or generating ideas can hold progress back.

At Dojo Tutor, our 2nd grade writing tutors work 1-to-1 with your child to strengthen writing skills. Whether it's organizing paragraphs, improving sentences, or building writing confidence, sessions target your child's specific needs.

With personalized support, your child can develop the writing skills they need for 3rd grade success.
