Mrs. McKay is a veteran educator with nearly twenty years of experience teaching middle school students at a Catholic school. Throughout her career, she has specialized in helping students build strong mathematical foundations, develop confidence, and discover their own problem-solving abilities. She currently teaches fifth and sixth grade math, where she focuses on making challenging concepts accessible and meaningful for every learner. In addition to her classroom work, Mrs. McKay has spent many years tutoring students of all ages—from kindergarten through high school. Her tutoring experience spans early numeracy skills, middle-school math, algebra readiness, high school coursework, and ACT/SAT preparation. Whether she is helping a young learner master multiplication facts or supporting a teen through advanced test prep, her goal is always the same: to identify learning gaps, strengthen essential skills, and empower students to approach math with confidence. Mrs. McKay holds a master’s degree in education and brings both professional expertise and personal insight to her work as a tutor. As a mother of two daughters in sixth and eighth grade who have learning disabilities, she understands the emotional, academic, and logistical challenges families face when children need extra support. This perspective allows her to work with students and parents with patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help each child succeed. Outside the classroom, Mrs. McKay enjoys spending time with her family. Together, they love visiting zoos, museums, and other places that encourage curiosity and hands-on learning. These experiences fuel her belief that learning should be engaging, connected to the real world, and tailored to each child’s unique strengths. Mrs. McKay welcomes new tutoring clients and looks forward to helping students grow in skill, confidence, and a positive mindset toward math.

I have been teaching for 8 years, primarily in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and another Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. My teaching experience has been focused in North Carolina, where I have taught in various schools and worked with diverse groups of students. My teaching certifications include K-6 General Education and Middle Grades (6-9) Math. My passion for teaching is fueled by my love for personalizing lessons to fit each student's needs, interests, and learning style. One of my favorite methods for making online learning fun and engaging is by incorporating the student's name and interests into the lesson. This not only helps to build a stronger relationship with the learner, but it also makes the lesson feel more tailored and relatable. Additionally, I frequently use the whiteboard feature on Zoom to work on problems together in real-time. This allows for a more interactive and effective learning experience for the student. Outside of teaching, I enjoy running, watching baseball, baking, crocheting, and sewing. These hobbies have taught me patience, creativity, and problem-solving skills, which I bring into my teaching methodology. I am constantly looking for ways to make learning more enjoyable and engaging for my students, and I often pull examples from my experiences with these hobbies to help students relate to the subject matter. I believe that learning should be a fun and enriching experience, and I am committed to making sure that my students feel excited and motivated to learn!

Hello! My name is Ms. Sarah, and I am excited to start this learning journey with you! I have been teaching for over 20 years and have experience working with learners from Pre-Kindergarten through 9th grade. My passion for education and dedication to my students have enabled me to teach a wide variety of subjects, including elementary music, elementary and middle school math, and special education. I have taught in my home state of North Carolina throughout my entire career and possess a diverse educational background. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Master of Music in Music Therapy, and I am currently working towards an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. Since I love being a student just as much as I love teaching, I look for opportunities to learn as much as I can from wherever I can! This has led to certifications in teaching students with Specific Learning Disabilities, such as the Orton-Gillingham Method and Dyscalculia frameworks, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher. With my extensive experience and qualifications, I am confident in my ability to provide engaging and effective tutoring sessions using explicit, multisensory, and systematic methods that are FUN, ENGAGING, & IMPACTFUL. As a tutor, I make online learning fun and engaging for my students by celebrating both their big and small accomplishments. I believe that mistakes are proof of effort and encourage my learners always to try their best. To ensure that online learning is effective, I employ a variety of strategies, including providing ample practice opportunities, interactive activities, and maintaining a good pace - I like to say that we'll "go as fast as we can, but as slow as we need." :) Outside of teaching, I enjoy singing with a 17-piece jazz band, gardening, crafting, and spending as much time as possible with my family doing things together outdoors. My creative hobbies have influenced my teaching style, as I continually seek new and innovative ways to make learning enjoyable for my students, and I particularly enjoy using multi-sensory methods for learning. I am excited to share my knowledge and passion for education with you and your family. Let's start this learning journey together!

I have been teaching for 11 years, and have spent most of that time teaching middle school math and social studies in my home state of South Carolina. I hold a Master's degree in educational technology, a Bachelor's degree in middle grades education, and an Associate's degree in information systems. My years of teaching experience have taught me how to make online learning fun and engaging for young learners. I have a huge personality and I'm not afraid to use it, even if it means being a little cringe-worthy at times! I love to find ways to incorporate everyday math into my lessons and get my students excited about numbers. I also enjoy working out and doing yoga in my free time, which helps keep me energized and ready to tackle any challenge that comes my way. I believe that online learning can be just as effective as in-person learning if approached correctly. I always make sure to check for understanding by asking my students to share their work and explain their thought process. This allows me to identify any areas where they may need extra help and tailor my lessons accordingly. When I'm not teaching, you can probably find me adding to my Tigger collection, as I have a soft spot for that lovable character. I can't wait to get to know you and your family, and work together to make learning a fun and enjoyable experience!
