I have been a teacher for four years, with a strong focus on helping elementary and middle school students grow as confident, skilled readers. I have provided targeted reading support using research-based strategies grounded in the Science of Reading. I hold a BA in History Education and an MA in History, and I am certified in TESOL and the Science of Reading. These certifications allow me to effectively support students who are new to the English language as well as those who may be struggling with reading skills such as fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. I truly enjoy helping students learn, grow, and build confidence in their education. Outside of tutoring and teaching, I attend school full-time to continue advancing my own education—I have a genuine love for learning. I also have a passion for reading books and writing stories, which brings even more joy to the work I do with students.

Hi! I am Melissa and I am excited to help your children on their education journey. I loved teaching, but have retired recently after 25 years of teaching third and fifth grades. I missed having students so much, that I have started tutoring. It is the best part of teaching without some of the more stressful parts! I am a mom of three adult children, two of which have married and given me grandchildren! I live with my husband and 2 dogs on a small farm in Michigan. I love traveling, camping, reading, and taking care of my grand kids.

I am Orton-Gillingham trained, which allows me to effectively support struggling learners, especially in reading and foundational skills. I specialize in breaking down concepts into clear, manageable steps so students can build confidence and achieve success. Throughout my career, I have served as a Lead Teacher and Mentor Teacher, and I have proudly hosted and guided student teachers for many years. These leadership roles have strengthened my ability to individualize instruction, collaborate with families, and meet the diverse needs of every learner. My tutoring sessions are engaging, supportive, and tailored to each child’s learning style. I believe every student can succeed with the right tools, encouragement, and instruction—and I’m excited to partner with families to help students grow academically and confidently.

Hi families! I’m Mr. Peters, a dedicated and energetic math teacher and tutor with 19 years of experience teaching 5th grade. My classes have consistently earned the highest state test scores in the district, and I love helping students feel confident and capable in math. Beyond the classroom, I’ve created a student mentor program, serve on my school’s Instructional Leadership Team, and support both students and teachers in strengthening math instruction. Outside of teaching, I’m a proud dad of three amazing daughters — including 9-year-old twins and a 17-year-old — who are active in sports and keep me on my toes! I’ve also coached basketball for 17 years, and one of my proudest moments was coaching a former 5th-grade student who went on to be drafted into the NBA and now plays for the Brooklyn Nets 🏀.

I am a former teacher with over 12 years of experience in education. Although, I left the traditional classroom I continue to work in the education field as educational advocacy for children and families is my lifelong passion.

I have been a teacher for 5 years, focusing on ELA and Social Studies for learners in Kindergarten through 6th grade. My experience has taken me from the sunny state of Texas to the bustling city of Washington D.C. and back! I hold a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, a Juris Doctorate (JD), and a Master's degree in Education (M.Ed). With my EC-6 certification, I am well-equipped to provide engaging and personalized lessons for young learners. I am fluent in English and utilize interactive activities to make online learning fun and enjoyable for kids. As an educator, I am dedicated to ensuring online learning is effective for my students. I use the gradual release model and frequently check for understanding to make sure every learner is successful. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading historical fiction and sci-fi novels. While these interests do not directly influence my teaching style, they do help me connect with learners and make our sessions even more engaging.
