Reading Tutoring for 2nd Grade

I have been teaching in Tennessee for 23 years, specializing in 2nd and 3rd grade subjects. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, a Masters in Education, and a +45 in Education. In addition, I am a certified professional educator. My goal as a tutor is to make learning relevant and engaging for my students. I will celebrate their successes and encourage growth in areas where they may struggle. As an experienced teacher, I believe that effective online learning begins with strong communication, patience, encouragement, and excitement. These strategies ensure that students are engaged and motivated to learn. Outside of teaching, my personal interests include reading, spending time watching my boys play baseball, and soaking up the sunshine. These interests greatly influence my teaching style and methodology. I believe that making learning enjoyable is key to helping students thrive. Whether we're reading a book together, playing a game, or exploring a new concept, I make sure that my students are having fun while learning. My experience has been mainly with 2nd-5th grade learners, which has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the elementary curriculum and the needs of my students. Hi, I’m Erika Barrientos! I’m so excited to join you on this learning journey. With 13 years of teaching experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with 4th and 5th graders across all subjects, as well as supporting students as a K–5 reading interventionist. Currently, I serve as a Reading Language Arts instructional coach, where I get to share my passion for helping kids discover the joy of reading. I believe online learning should be fun and meaningful. My lessons come alive through real-world connections, catchy songs, engaging videos, and creative projects that spark curiosity. Most importantly, I design each session to match the unique interests of my students—because when learning feels personal, it sticks! Outside of teaching, I’m a proud boy mom who loves cheering at my sons’ sporting events and working on fun crafts. I’m currently connected at Clark County School District teaching in Manuel J Cortez ES for 4 years assigned in 1st grade ELA and Mathematics subjects.I’m a simple woman with nothing really special about me. I’m really sweet and outgoing person. I take problems as trials, I take it as part of my destiny . I’m a happy person, that is why I enjoy life every second of my day. I’m very serious when it comes to work. I want people to see me exactly as I am a teacher who pours her heart into her work. I really believe in teaching by example. I’m not afraid to try new things and fight for whatever I believe. The more challenging life I have, the more aggressive I am. I enjoy everything that I do. I am a mom, teacher, and wife. My full time job is a Kindergarten teacher, but I have taught 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade as various times throughout my career. I love reading and hanging out with my family on the weekends. I have 3 dogs and 3 kids, which makes life fun and interesting. When I am not teaching you will probably find me at a dance competition with my daughter or visiting friends and family.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of teaching in a variety of settings—including Specialized Structured Life Classrooms, resource and inclusion environments, and programs for medically fragile students. My passion lies in meeting each student exactly where they are and helping them thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally. I have been teaching and working with children for over 21 years, and helping students grow and succeed is truly my passion. My goal is to build confidence, strengthen skills, and help each child feel proud of their progress. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my five pets and traveling with my family.
