I am an accomplished educator with nine years of teaching experience across primary grade levels, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. I began my teaching career in 2016 in my hometown of Hamilton, New Jersey, and have since dedicated seven years to serving students in Virginia through Hampton City Schools, Newport News City Public Schools, and currently, Norfolk Public Schools. Throughout my career, I have taught all core academic subjects and currently focus on reading instruction. In addition to classroom teaching, I possess extensive experience in academic tutoring, providing targeted support in all subject areas and preparing students for state academic assessments. My professional practice is guided by a commitment to educational excellence, equitable learning opportunities, and fostering the academic and personal growth of every student. I strive to cultivate a learning environment that promotes literacy, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning while continuously developing as an instructional leader dedicated to student success.

With over 23 years of teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to teach 3rd to 6th graders as well as 9th graders in a variety of subjects such as Science (Biology, Earth Science), Reading and Writing. My passion lies in making learning fun and engaging for young learners, and I can't wait to bring that passion to Dojo Tutor and my learners. I have taught in North Carolina for most of my career and hold a B.Sc. in Biological Science, an A.Sc. in Agricultural Science, and a Diploma in Secondary Education. As a licensed educator in NCDPI, I am dedicated to providing quality education to my learners and ensuring their success. My teaching style is centered around hands-on learning, laboratory experiments, and incorporating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) techniques. My goal as a tutor at Dojo Tutor is to not only help your child excel academically, but also to make online learning enjoyable and effective. I achieve this by using various strategies such as role play, videos, games like pictionary, virtual field trips, and fun quizzes. I also believe in gamification, using platforms like Quizizz, Kahoot, Gimkit, and Blooket to make learning interactive and engaging for learners. Additionally, I use student presentations, videos, digital whiteboard, and provide prompt feedback to ensure the effectiveness of online learning. Outside of teaching, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and traveling. I find that my personal interests greatly influence my teaching style and methodology, making my lessons more relatable and enjoyable for learners. I can't wait to share my interests and expertise with your child and help them reach their full potential. Let's embark on this learning journey together!

Pre-K - 2nd

Available Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu

I have been teaching for 20 years and have experience working with learners in Pre-K to 5th grade. My passion for teaching and my love for working with kids has led me to teach in sunny Florida, where I have taught for the past 20 years. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a Master's degree in Reading, and an Education Specialist degree in Leadership. In addition, I am certified in Elementary Education, Reading K-12, and hold an ESOL Endorsement. I believe that every child is unique and has the potential to succeed, and I am committed to helping your child reach their full potential. One of my main goals as a tutor is to make online learning not only effective, but also fun and engaging for my students. I do this by connecting with my learners, celebrating their successes, and incorporating fun-educational games into our sessions. I also use a variety of presentation tools and educational resources to ensure that my learners are actively engaged and learning in a way that works best for them. My interests and hobbies outside of teaching, such as reading, enjoying nature, and spending time with my family, influence my teaching style and methodology, making it a more personalized and enjoyable experience for my learners. I am looking forward to getting to know your child and working with them to achieve their academic goals. I believe that all kids have the potential to succeed and with the right guidance and support, they can reach their full potential. Let's work together to make learning a fun and rewarding experience for your child!

Expert 1st grade reading support, built around your child

First grade is when children are expected to become readers — decoding words, building fluency, and beginning to comprehend what they read. The gap between strong and struggling readers often widens significantly during this year.

At Dojo Tutor, our 1st grade reading tutors work 1-to-1 with your child on the specific skills they need. Whether it's phonics patterns, sight words, fluency, or comprehension, sessions are tailored to your child's level with engaging, systematic instruction.

With personalized support during this critical year, your child can become a confident, capable reader.
