Reading Tutoring for 10th Grade

I have been teaching for 23 years, and have experience working with learners from 5th -10th grade. I have taught a variety of subjects, including English, Social Studies, and English as a Second Language (ESOL). My teaching career has taken me to Virginia, Colorado, and Oregon. I hold a Masters in Teaching from the University of Virginia, with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction for Social Studies Education in grades 6-12. In addition, I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia in Studies in Women and Gender. I am also endorsed in ESOL for K-12 learners. My teaching certifications include Secondary Education, Social Studies, and ESOL K-12.

Hi there! My name is Ms. Alvarez, and I am so excited to meet you and your child! I am a licensed teacher from Colorado, and I hold credentials in Elementary Education (K-6), Special Education (K-12), and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Teaching (CLD). I am so passionate about learning and supporting my students in achieving growth and building self-efficacy. I have experience as a classroom teacher, a resource teacher, a substitute teacher, and an online teacher. When I'm not teaching, you might find me reading, cooking, traveling, or re-watching my favorite TV shows!

With nine years of teaching experience in Special Education and elementary grades, I love helping students grow in math, science, and social studies. I teach for a private academy that reaches learners worldwide from my home in Kentucky. I believe every child is unique and deserves to shine! My lessons are engaging and full of interactive games, stories, and hands-on challenges that make learning fun and meaningful. When I’m not teaching, I’m singing with my band, writing devotionals, or spending time with my son, Brooks. I can’t wait to bring my love for learning, music, and creativity into our sessions!

I am originally from New York City and come from a proud bilingual family. My personal journey as both a learner and educator has shaped my belief that every child has greatness within them, and it is our work—as a school community and as families—to help that greatness shine. I have worked in education for several years as a teacher, instructional coach, and school administrator. My passion is supporting students in building strong language skills, confidence in expressing who they are, and pride in their culture and identity. Hi, Families! My name is Kandy, and I’m thrilled to start this learning journey with you. I’m a licensed, certified teacher with over 25 years of experience working with learners of all ages and backgrounds. I’ve taught everything from pre-K through fifth grade, as well as college-level English and Essay Writing. I’ve also tutored students from preschool through adulthood in math, reading, writing, science, and study skills. Teaching in multiple states - Connecticut, Maryland, and Virginia - has given me valuable insight into different learning styles and student needs.

My name is Dana. I've been teaching for over fifteen years. I have teaching experience in private schools, international schools, public schools, and in both in-classroom and online schools at home in the US and abroad. I have taught ages K-12, exam-prep, and adults. I am continuously upgrading my skills to facilitate modern learning and provide the best quality tutoring I can!

As a certified English Language Arts teacher, I have 4 years of experience teaching grades 7-10. I then transitioned to tutoring where I have been helping learners in grades 3-12 for over 6 months. I graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor's of Science in English Language Arts and Sociology and am certified to teach both subjects. My home is Utah, where I taught in public education and hold a Professional Teaching License in the Secondary Education Level (6-12) in both English Language Arts and Sociology from the Utah State Board of Education. My teaching style is human, story-based, and simple. I use a variety of methods to make online learning fun and engaging for my students. I believe that tailoring lessons to each learner's interests and incorporating manipulatives can make learning more enjoyable and effective. By engaging multiple senses, students are more likely to retain information and stay interested. I also check for understanding throughout the lesson and use the gradual release of responsibility to support learners. Outside of teaching, I love to read, spend time outdoors, and be creative. These interests definitely influence my teaching style as I believe in the importance of multiple perspectives and problem-solving, just like in art. I am passionate about helping learners grow and succeed, and I am excited to bring my skills and experience to Dojo Tutor. Hi! I love teaching, and working with kids of all ages! I’ve been teaching since I was 16 years old with swim lessons, and finally became a teacher in 2020! I love to write, and have published a book for middle grade readers! Some of my hobbies are walking/hiking, drawing, swimming, and playing video games. When I’m not tutoring, I love spending time with my family!

My journey began in second grade when I felt called and knew teaching would always be my passion. I have been blessed to teach in public, private, and online settings, giving me the opportunity to grow immensely, becoming more creative, intentional, and effective.
