I have been teaching for 3 years, primarily in 4th and 5th grade, covering all subjects. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to teach in Illinois, specifically in the Chicagoland area. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree and am certified to teach all subjects for grades 1-6. I also have a Middle school ELA endorsement for grades 6-8. These qualifications have allowed me to have a well-rounded understanding of the subjects I teach and the age groups I work with. In addition, I am currently pursuing my master's in library and information science at Louisiana State University, with a focus on Children's Librarianship and early literacy. Outside of teaching, I have many interests and hobbies that keep me creative and always learning. I enjoy reading, practicing yoga, crocheting, drawing, pottery, and gardening. Hi! My name is Tammie, and I'm excited to start this learning journey with you. I bring approximately 20 years of teaching experience across grades K-12, where I've taught reading, ESL, social studies, and English, as well as some math and science. My favorite positions to teach in are resource and special education. I believe that all children are capable of learning with the right supports. Currently, I teach in my state's largest school district, which serves students from 17 different countries who speak as many as 108 languages (other than English) at home. My educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science and a Master's degree in Reading Specialist/ESL. I’ve spent the last seven years teaching students from Kindergarten through 12th grade here in sunny Florida. I come from a background in International Business & Trade and Communications, which helps me bring a global, creative, and people-centered approach to teaching. Outside the classroom, I love the beach, cooking (especially West African–inspired dishes), music, and dance. I believe learning should feel joyful, empowering, and connected to real life.

My experience teaching covers grades 9-11 in Math II and Math III. I am originally from West Virginia, where I hold a West Virginia Teaching Certificate.
