Hi! I'm Ms. Sarah. I've been teaching since 2012 when I joined the Peace Corps and was sent to Guinea to teach English. That was the beginning of my teaching journey. I've since gotten certified in ESL and earned a Masters in Education. I've taught in my home state of Kentucky, as well as internationally in South Korea, Taiwan, and Myanmar teaching 3rd through 12th grade in both ESL and English Language Arts. I've also taught online for 6 years, tutoring students from China and Kyrgyzstan. I've also mentored a few students in creative writing.

📚 Meet Dr. Darris! ✨ Hi there! 👋 My name is Ms. Darris, and I’m so excited to start this learning journey with you! 🎉 I have started my seventh year of certified public elementary school teaching experience and have a strong background in tutoring both elementary and secondary students (PreK–9th Grade). I've also enjoyed six years as an education consultant supporting parents with their children's academic needs, whether they are enrolled in a traditional or private school, or in a homeschool. And, along the way, I’ve had the joy of supporting young learners across the United States. I hold a: 🎓 Ph.D. in Communication 📘 Master’s in Communications Management 📗 Bachelor’s in Communication 📕 Associate of Arts in General Transfer Studies 💡 My Teaching Style I’m passionate about creating engaging, accessible lessons that help kids fall in love with learning! 💻✏️ I use digital whiteboards, interactive quizzes, fun visuals, and rewards to make every session exciting. Each lesson is: ✅ Personalized to your child’s interests ✅ Broken down into step-by-step, manageable parts ✅ Full of friendly challenges to boost confidence ✅ Designed to build a predictable and empowering routine 🌟 After each session, I provide a custom Practice Skills Sheet based on the day’s lesson. It includes a Step-by-Step Guide to help your child remember how to apply the skill(s) taught—so learning continues even after class! 📝📘 My goal? To help every student feel motivated, confident, and successful in a supportive online environment. 🌈👏 🎨 A Little About Me When I’m not teaching, I love reading, writing, dancing, crafting, singing, and staying active! 🎶📚💃 I also enjoy exploring politics, history, and social issues—topics that inspire my thoughtful, creative, and real-world approach to teaching.

Hello! I have been teaching at a small, rural school district in Western Pennsylvania for the past 18 years. For the first 17 years, I was at the middle/high school where I taught reading/language arts to grades 7-9 for the first four years and special education grades 9-12 after that. Last year, I was moved to the elementary school to teach grades 3 and 4 learning support reading and ELA. This coming school year, I will teach grade 5 learning support reading, grammar, and math. I have always loved teaching, and my favorite part is seeing how much a student has improved from the beginning of the year to the end. Here is my educational background: In 2005, I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor's in Secondary Education in English/communications. After a few long-term substitute positions and teaching alternative education, I received my Masters of Education and reading specialist certificate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2007. I then started teaching at the school in which I currently teach, but in 2011, I was briefly furloughed. During that time, I taught reading and composition courses at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Pennsylvania Highlands Community College. I also received my special education certificate from Waynesburg University. In 2012, I began teaching learning support reading and ELA and have remained in that role since. Outside of teaching, I have four amazing kids! They are ages 15, 12, 9, and 1. Most of my time is spent cheering them on at basketball, football, and baseball; they keep me very busy! I also love gardening and making crafts for my home. I look forward to tutoring your child and helping them to succeed!
